Il y a quelque chose de particulièrement saisissant dans cette image : un gamin qui n'a pour seul refuge que le studio d'enregistrement. "I ain't had nowhere to go but the studio, my whole life caved in" — tout s'effondrait autour de lui, et la musique était le seul endroit où les murs tenaient encore. C'est à partir de là qu'on commence vraiment à comprendre "yvngvmp", ce titre étrange, tout en minuscules, qui ressemble à un mot de passe ou à un tatouage.

Ken Carson n'est pas du genre à construire des ponts entre lui et son auditeur. Il balance ses vérités dans un flux dense, presque sans respiration, avec cette énergie caractéristique de la scène Opium — cette façon de rapper comme si chaque syllabe était une brique qu'on pose à toute vitesse avant que quelqu'un vienne tout démolir. Et pourtant, au milieu des punchlines et des références à la Maybach et aux bijoux qui brillent au poignet, il y a des failles. Des moments où le vernis craque.

Carson a besoin de se le dire à voix haute, de le faire entendre, peut-être pour y croire lui-même complètement.
