Il y a quelque chose d'irrésistible dans l'exercice. "Et si tu gouvernais le monde, qu'est-ce que tu ferais ?" C'est la question que pose BTS avec ce morceau taillé dans le marbre du hip-hop classique, quelque part entre le fantasme assumé et l'aveu sincère. Dès les premières mesures, le groupe embarque l'auditeur dans une sorte de jeu de rôle grandiloquent, avec ses cris de foule, ses "westside" scandés comme une incantation, et cette ligne répétée jusqu'à l'hypnose — "if I ruled the world, I'd do it all".
La scène du conquérant
LE premier acte est celui de la posture. RM campe un personnage de roi du monde, listant ses trophées avec une délectation presque comique : des femmes de tous horizons, une collection vestimentaire entièrement noire, une chanson nationale composée en son honneur. Il y a de la jubilation là-dedans, une façon de pousser la logique du rap bravache jusqu'à ses limites pour mieux en révéler l'absurdité. Et BTS ne s'en cache pas — cette "chanson idiote" qu'on chante sachant très bien qu'elle est impossible, comme le dit le refrain coréen, c'est exactement ce qu'ils sont en train de faire, et ils le savent.
Ce que Suga voudrait vraiment
Puis quelque chose bascule. Suga prend le micro et l'ambiance change du tout au tout. Son rêve à lui, c'est de trouver un appartement avec sa famille, de passer son permis, de ne pas avoir à s'inquiéter du prix de l'essence. On est loin du palais et des foules en délire. Il veut rester dans la musique, parier sur BTS plutôt que sur les marchés financiers, et "ne pas se moquer" de ses propres rêves même s'ils paraissent trop simples — "eoltodangto an han kkumijiman, it's my dream nolliji ma". Ce glissement du grandiose vers l'intime est ce qui donne au morceau son vrai souffle. La grandeur imaginaire du titre s'efface devant la sincérité d'un jeune artiste qui veut juste pouvoir vivre de ce qu'il aime.
J-Hope conclut avec énergie, en offrant symboliquement tous ces rêves sous la bannière Bangtan. Le fantasme collectif reprend ses droits, mais il a été traversé, le temps de quelques vers, par quelque chose de bien plus vrai.
